what an odd sized explosion

Having been fairly house bound trying to write this paper (finished the first half of the first section- so about a third of the way through then) so here lies a list of things keeping me sane and bringing a smile to my face:

- The new My Morning Jacket album.
- The American Anologue Set album (reminding me of Tortoise and my post rock days)
- Putting odd words and phrases and references in my work, for example Rosencrantz and Guilderstern, anchorage points, common threads and seldom. However, i have used 'infer' far to frequently.
- The Brick film trailer (www.focusfeatures.com/viewer.php?f=brick&c=trailer&ext=mov&w=480&h=270).
- Adverts, in particular the Orange dancing one (good things do indeed happen when you're phone is off) and the Renault Clio Britain/France one.
- Guacomole.
- The excellently titled 'kevin is gay' by Giant Drag (www.giantdrag.com/movies/kevin_is_gay.mov).
- The next month sees at leats two films a week i want to see (Brothers Grimm and Elizabethtown this week).
- Not being overloaded with stuff to do and actually relaxing. This week seems to be quiet.
- My Chemical Romance's I'm OK, a true guilty pleasure.
- KCRW radio sessions (Ben Lee, the Like and Death Cab for Cutie are current favourites).

  • comment not quite on target, but i've also found sleeping on the floor an excellent nights sleep - since the bizarre situation with robin's sleeping meant i've been sleeping on the floor on nothing but a duvet (double duvet wrapped over like a pitta bread/ falafel combination) i've become quite a fan of zero altitude sleeping. i might even go as far as to say i prefer it.
i s'pose a lovely geek with trendy hair and glasses is a good way of describing you too. i'm occasionally branded a geek at work, but i have difficult hair.
i no longer buy cd's, or certyainly not in the quantities i used to - i have however just bought the new iron & wine/ calexico album, "in the reins" after the hodge bought it round for me to listen to.

  • i remember a night in hospital ages ago where a bloke was snoring sincredibly loudly, he might as well have been shouting. so i went to the day room at the end of the corridor & slept on the floor with nothing but a couple of blankets. i had ear plugs on, & could still hear him snoring. i gave the cleaner a bit of a surprise in the morning.

  • I like focus, always pleased when I see their logo at the start of a film. James Schamus - co-president/founder guy (used to be co-boss of Good Machine with Ted Hope) - is really cool, way into film (as you'd hope really); at Good Machine, attempted to "judiciuosly play the managed growth game by trying to make sure we exist to make movies rather than make movies to exist" - a great quote that helps you understand the struggle of any indie. But now he's cosied up with a major as an in-house indie and they have a relatively huge budget and a lot of trust and freedom, which I think is amazing. They make good films. I wrote a bit about Focus in my disertation.
